Even so, the Blue Eyes White Dragon leaf auction still attracted the attention of Chinese netizens, with more than 18,000 auction participants and 2 million online followers.
Notably, the value of this card quickly spiraled out of control, with the bidding price increasing by more than 500,000 yuan (equivalent to 77,000 USD) within minutes, much higher than the above price of 31,000 USD.
`This auction has been suspended,` said a notice from Alibaba’s online auction platform.
The auction organizers also suspect that some people intentionally bid at a high price with bad intentions, instead of truly wanting to own the above card.
It is currently unclear whether the court will sue the auction participants or not.
Auctioning frozen assets in criminal cases is relatively common in China.
