Up to now, Lionel Messi has scored 3 goals in Qatar, including the opening goal against Australia in the round of 16.
Sharing with the media before the clash with Argentina in the quarterfinals, Van Dijk admitted about Messi: `It’s really difficult when we are engrossed in attacking and he (Messi) sits and relaxes in a corner.`
`It’s an honor to play with Messi, but it’s not me or the Netherlands against him, it’s the Netherlands against Argentina. No one can do it alone, we will have to come up with a plan
In the past, Van Dijk faced Messi in the 2019 European Cup semi-finals, when Van Dijk’s Liverpool overcame a 0-3 loss to Barca in the first leg – in which Messi scored two goals – to reach the finals.
Van Dijk admitted that Messi is still dangerous even `walking`.
Meanwhile, Dutch coach Louis van Gaal gave the opinion that Argentina will not receive Messi’s support in defense:
“Messi is really the most dangerous player, the one who creates the most chances and also creates them himself, but on the other hand, he doesn’t contest much with opponents.
The epic battles between the Netherlands and Argentina always contain many relationships.
Coach Van Gaal believes that Argentina’s overreliance on Messi can be a double-edged sword.
Meanwhile, coach Louis Van Gaal himself also had to bear the bitter fruit in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals when the Netherlands he led lost to the Tango dancers on a fateful penalty shootout.
