Lieutenant General Antonio Aguto, US military commander in charge of sending precision weapons to Ukraine, said on December 12 that many types of US precision ammunition began to be delivered to Ukraine and they quickly brought some
However, those advantages are gradually being lost because Russia continually seeks to jam these weapons, making them no longer as effective.
`Russia’s jamming of US precision weapons sent to Ukraine is a major challenge,` Mr. Antonio emphasized in a speech via video link at an event organized by the Program Executive Office for command, control and
Since December 2022, Mr. Aguto has led the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine, the umbrella organization that coordinates allied military aid to Ukraine.
Unnamed US defense officials previously said that Moscow was jamming precision missiles provided by the Pentagon to Kiev, causing them to deviate from their activities.
But then Russia later changed its jamming method, forcing the US to find new countermeasures.
Such weapons, such as the guided multiple launch missile system, have given Ukraine a vital advantage on the battlefield by pushing Russian ammunition stores beyond their range.
However, leaked US documents show that Russia is jamming GPS-guided bombs that the US provided to Ukraine.
Moscow has many advanced jamming capabilities, including several jammers that can block GPS signals at ranges of up to 40km.
General Aguto said the Pentagon needs to improve weapons and equipment to be `resilient and flexible enough to be able to counter Russian jamming activities.`
According to the general, the US should also improve communication capabilities between allies, including sharing information on everything from logistics to battlefield data.
General Aguto said that the Maven battlefield intelligence information sharing system is being used to plan logistics support for Ukraine.
In fact, because the US has shipped billions of dollars worth of equipment and weapons to Ukraine, the country has tried to speed up this process by up to 30%.
Recalling the US military’s current efforts to reduce the size of command posts, General Aguto also said that the military’s command post technology needs to be `much more mobile and smaller` while still providing the same capabilities.
