Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was the leading candidate to win the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award but lost to Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi.
Manchester City fans and a large crowd in particular have shared their anger after Erling Haaland missed out on the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
Haaland and Messi’s votes were announced this morning, January 16, after national team coaches, captains, ‘expert’ journalists and fans voted for the award.
By this measurement, Messi ranked ahead of Haaland by the narrowest distance to win this award for the third time.
During the above period, Haaland was an indispensable factor in helping Man City win a historic treble.
Meanwhile, Messi had a relatively quiet 2023, winning the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami and Ligue 1 with PSG.
Some international football fans quickly expressed anger about Haaland not winning this award on Twitter.

One fan wrote: `Lionel Messi? So Erling Haaland was robbed?`
Another responded: `Really confusing.`
Meanwhile, an account named ASTRO wrote: `I don’t think I will like Messi anymore.`
In addition to collective titles such as the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup, Haaland also won a series of individual awards, including noble awards such as the Premier League Golden Boot, Outstanding Player
An award that was also controversial when it fell out of Haaland’s hands was the Golden Ball.
Haaland may not have won the award but overall it was a great night for Man City.
Pep Guardiola was awarded Men’s Coach of the Year while Ederson was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
